from the donor: "hi, my name is Emmanuel naval, vassar college 1993. enclosed are some pics of what I wore to my wedding. it is called a barong tagalog. it is the traditional formal wear for men which has it's roots from the Spanish colonization of the Philippines.
the shirt is pina as described in the following: Piña fabric is hand-loomed from pineapple leaf fibers. Because piña weavers in the Philippines are dwindling, its scarcity makes the delicate piña cloth expensive and is thus used for very formal events.
here is the wikipedia link which is pretty good as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barong_Tagalog
thanks,
manny naval"
