Public Information
This dress was worn June 26, 1949 by Muriel Kahn Lampell ‘51 at her West Point wedding. The dress was bought from Saks 5th Avenue Bridal Shop for about $400, which was very expensive at the time (shoes cost about $10). She also wore a simple lace cap and small veil. After the wedding, she had the sleeves removed from the dress to be able to wear it as a summer formal dress, although she never did.
Condition Term
very good
Condition
sleeves were unattached (have been reattached for exhibition)
Treatment
The treatment for this dress was not completed. The lace flounces at the waist were smoothed out and steamed by Alexandra Figler. The sleeves had been detached by the original wearer, Muriel Kahn Lampell, but were sewn back into the arms-eyes by hand for the exhibition. Off-white net was rolled and inserted in each sleeve to fill it out. The chest of the form was padded, with a period bra as a foundation garment. There is a rip on the back of the right sleeve that has not been treated.
