This gym suit was worn by Floy Stager (Shirk), originally of the class of 1907. Miss Stager had to leave Vassar during her sophomore year to help out at home, as her older brother was very ill. This suit is one of two in Special Collections that are almost identical, and were likely a required uniform at the time. As early as 1867, as indicated on the last page of a letter to parents from Vassar's first Lady Principal, Miss Lyman, students were required to buy gym suits for their required physical education.
